Coming to Les Maisons de Giroudet without a car

Practical information

Rambouillet and Épernon stations are both 15 minutes by car from our houses in Écrosnes. Both are linked to Paris-Montparnasse in roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

The train from Paris

Leaving the car at home means the weekend starts on the platform. A book, a coffee, and the city fades away behind the window.

Paris-Montparnasse → Rambouillet. TER trains on the Paris–Chartres line take 34 minutes on average, 29 minutes for the fastest. Around thirty trains run every day, from the first departure at about 5:30 am to the last at about 11 pm. Rambouillet is also the end of one branch of Transilien line N, which is slower as it makes more stops.

Paris-Montparnasse → Épernon. The same TER trains continue on to Épernon: 45 minutes on average, 39 minutes at the quickest, 32 trains a day.

Timetables vary with the day and with engineering works: check your train on SNCF Connect before you set off.

The last quarter of an hour by taxi

Our houses are deep in the countryside, so from the station, a taxi is the simplest option. Allow 15 minutes from Rambouillet or Épernon.

Book your taxi several days in advance, giving your train’s arrival time and our address: 6 rue de Saint-Étienne, 28320 Écrosnes. Remember to book the return journey too.

Coming as a group? One shared car from Paris and the rest of the group by train: it’s often the easiest way.

Arriving in your own time

Check-in is self-service from 5 pm, with a key box. Train running late, or coming straight from work? It doesn’t matter: you can arrive at any hour. We’ll send you the code before your stay.

Check-out is at 11 am. On the day you leave, book a taxi for around 10:45 am and catch a late-morning train.

What to pack

You won’t need much: the beds are made when you arrive and towels are provided.

Do bring:

  • good shoes for walking in the countryside;
  • a swimsuit, from May to the end of September, for the indoor pool (unheated water) at Maison Raphaël and Villa Marceau;
  • comfortable clothes for the sauna, open all year round to the same guests;
  • a jumper, even in summer: evenings are cool facing the plain;
  • a bag for your shopping.

Groceries

No need to carry bags from Paris: the Hyper U in Hanches, 8 minutes away, offers a drive service with home delivery for €10. Order online before you leave, pick your time slot, and your groceries arrive at the house. The kitchens are fully equipped for cooking on site.

On site, without a car

Once you’re here, nobody misses the car. The garden, the meadows of the stable opposite, the sauna and, in season, the pool are enough to fill a weekend.

For a walk, a 3.7 km loop from Écrosnes follows the rue and the route de Giroudet, along the Ocre stream. Cyclists can also bring their bikes: TER trains on the Paris–Chartres line carry them, and the Véloscénie links Épernon to Maintenon and then to Chartres.

Coming with a bike

The Paris–Chartres TER carries non-folded bikes free of charge. From Épernon station, the Véloscénie stage to Maintenon covers 17 km along quiet little roads. To ride from the station to our houses, ask us for the safest route before you leave.

In short

Paris-Montparnasse, 30 to 45 minutes by train, 15 minutes by taxi booked in advance, a key box: a car-free weekend near Paris comes down to four steps.
